Don't Reward Attention-Seeking Barking
When your dog barks to demand your attention, food, or play, any response—even negative attention like scolding—acts as a reward. To break this habit, you must practice complete extinction. Turn your back, avoid eye contact, and remain entirely silent until they offer at least five seconds of calm behavior.
Only when the barking stops should you turn around and reward them with praise or a treat. Consistently reinforcing silence teaches your dog that quiet behavior is the only path to getting what they want.
